The Institute for Crisis Management – ICM Skopje took active part in the international exercise organized by NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NATO EADRCC), held in the Republic of Bulgaria in 2025. This exercise is part of NATO’s strategic efforts to strengthen capacities for responding to natural and man-made disasters and to enhance interoperability among member states and partners.
Members of the Institute’s team actively participated in the implementation of an advanced scenario focused on the integrated use of CARE-XR technology, within a live earthquake response simulation. Key components of the CARE-XR scenario included:
- Augmented reality (AR) overlays to support search and rescue teams in the field, enabling faster victim location and improved orientation in urban rubble;
- Visualization of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) threats, aimed at raising situational awareness and enabling timely decision-making;
- XR-supported triage, victim tracking, and evacuation planning, significantly improving the flow of medical intervention and logistics.
Through this scenario, ICM Skopje demonstrated its capacity to apply advanced technologies in real crisis conditions, as well as a high level of expertise and readiness to operate in a multinational and multisectoral environment.
This participation represents a significant step in the development of the Institute’s institutional capacities, and confirms its role as a relevant partner in international disaster response efforts. ICM Skopje remains committed to innovation, training, and collaboration for increased resilience and security in the region and beyond.
